Ayşegül Altunok Zilkovski is an artist with a background in sculpture. She continues her installation-based practice across two distinct production axes, both in physical and digital environments. The artist creates living monuments inspired by nature, micro-organisms, archaeology, architecture, and captivating moments she wishes to freeze in memory.
Objects, constructions, beings, movement, energy, and light — units that seem to contradict one another — do not function in a traditional sense but instead sustain their existence within an alternative, endemic life cycle. By dramatizing abstract geometric forms, synthetic use of light, and indeterminate qualities through poetic naming, she aims to transform the viewer's perception probabilistically.
Structuring her works upon four foundational elements — form, space, light, and name — the artist creates layers of memory that signify virtual spaces, as well as realms of dream and thought. Through her synthetic construction of time, and using light as a means of representing movement, she creates captivating and unexpected stories and scenes that liberate matter from its constraints.
Altunok graduated from the Sculpture Department of Marmara University's Faculty of Fine Arts. In her master's thesis completed in 2019, she focused on "The Use of Artificial Light as a Structural Element in Abstract Sculpture," and in her proficiency in art dissertation completed in 2023, she examined "The Relationship Between Sculpture and Space in Virtual Reality Environments."
The artist, whose focus has increasingly centered on digital production, also explores sustainable solutions within the practice of art-making, employing 3D printing technologies, artificial intelligence, virtual spaces, and digital tools.
